Mother's Day is celebrated across more than 46 countries of the worldto honour the contribution of mother in our life.In fact, in today’s era when all relationships are based on selfishness, some benefit, or some greed, Mother’s love is the only selfless love in the world. A mother loves her childrenwithout any purpose or expectation.

Despite the fact, in this male dominated society,a person’s identity is linked with father’s name or husband ‘s name. Whether it is any educational institution, any govt office or corporate office, everywhere father’s or husband’s name is asked informs. There are very new institutions or organizations, where a person’s identity could be linked with any parent.

The present-day celebration of Mother's Day began in the year 1908 when Anna Jarvis organized a memorial for her mother, Ann Jarvis, a peace activist who used to care the wounded soldiers of the American Civil War. The event was held at the St Andrew's Methodist Church in Grafton, West Virginia, which currently holds the International Mother's Day Shrine. Anna Jarvis began the task of getting support for the celebration of Mother's Day in the United States in 1905 after her mother died the same year. She wanted to honour all the mothers of the world who have done a lot for their family and society.

Due to her continuous efforts, most of the US states by 1911 started celebrating Mother's Day as a local holiday and the West Virginia, the home state of Jarvis became the first state to declare the holiday for the occasion in the year 1910. Finally, the second Sunday of May was officially designated as Mother's Day in the USA and was declared as a national holiday after Woodrow Wilson, the 28th President of United States of America signed the proclamation in the year 1914. In this way, the present Mother's Day came into existence in the USA and the same date is also selected by countries like India, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Italy, Singapore, Belgium, and many other countries.

Mother’s day is celebrated to acknowledge the contribution of mother in our life. But according to me, if we really want to value mother’s contribution, we should pay respect towards her throughout the year. This is applicable not only to the mother who gave us birth but for mother in laws too. Both, daughter in laws and son in laws should take care and pay respect to their mother in laws. This way abusive cases against senior citizens could be avoided. We can take their care by following small things in our daily busy life-

1. Spend time- Mother does not demand for expensive things. Just spend time with her and ask about her health. We may ask small things to her such as did she have food, etc.
2. Make special dish for her if she is on fast or has some health problem.
3. See, if sheis facing any health issue. Sometimes, many mothers do not disclose their health issues as this will be problematic for their children. But we should notice, if she is facing any problem in reading newspaper or watching TV, or while accomplishing daily tasks.s
4. Let your children spend time with their grandparents as thestories told by grandma are recalled by grandchildren throughout their life.These stories are the first learning for them.
5. Get new and comfortable clothes for them on festivals etc.
6. Tell them about your new job, promotion, or any advancement in life.
7. Sometimes, Mothers become irritating by nature and start showing angerin their old age. This is may be due to any health issue or any other thing in their mind. But, never fight with them or never shout at them. This will hurt them.
8. Remember special days such as their birthday, their marriage anniversary, mother’s day etc. and do not forget to wish them
9. Finally, it is important to remain in touch with them.
