Dementia: Symptoms and Causes

Dementia is a syndrome — usually of a chronic or progressive nature — in which there is deterioration in memory, thinking, behaviour and the ability to perform everyday activities. It is one of the major causes of disability and dependency among older people worldwide.

At SHEOWS, we care for many elderly residents who live with dementia. Our trained staff and medical team provide round-the-clock support, ensuring that those with dementia live with dignity and receive the specialized care they need.

Common Symptoms of Dementia:

  • Memory loss and confusion
  • Difficulty with language and communication
  • Disorientation in time and place
  • Difficulty with daily tasks
  • Changes in mood and behaviour

Common Causes:

  • Alzheimer's disease (most common)
  • Vascular dementia
  • Lewy body dementia
  • Frontotemporal dementia

Early diagnosis and appropriate care can significantly improve quality of life for those living with dementia. SHEOWS remains committed to providing specialized care and support to our elderly residents facing this challenge.
